Butterworth Coming Home
By: David | February 2nd, 2009Ian Butterworth is hopefully to be unveiled as Assistant Manager at Carrow Road. He wasn’t with the Hartlepool team at Brighton on Saturday having been spotted in the stands at City’s game at the Keepmoat on Friday night. With the protracted saga of signing Paul Stephenson as coach under Roeder from Hartlepool, our clubs aren’t exactly on great terms and a compensation package for Butterworth was the only, but significant, sticking point. He apparently took traing at Colney yesterday (Sunday) and has travelled with the squad to Molineux for tomorrows game, which Hartlepool are aware of. But a deal is not done.

Butterworth made 293 appearances for City between 1986 and 1994 at centre half before injury forced his retirement. He re-emerged in the inaugural MLS season in 1996 with Colorado Rapids. In 2005 Ian passed his pro licence having had successful spells coaching at Cardiff and Darlington. He worked with the FA in Germany during the World Cup and on his return was given his current role of Reserve Team coach at Hartlepool.
