Signings and Trialists
By: David | July 16th, 2009Just an update on transfer goings on over the summer break. Bryan Gunn seems to have got a good hold on the dressing room by holding a meeting with all of the senior players asking those who wish to be part of City’s rebuilding and battling in League 1 to put their hand up. Those who didn’t have been released, or if under contract, left behind on the Clubs’ pre season mini tour of Scotland. Namely Sammy Clingan and Darel Russel who are training at Colney, Norwich City’s training facility, while the Club await offers for them to come in. This is a good move from Gunny as it allows the team to bond together without the distraction of uncommitted players.
Players signed on permanent deals so far this Summer are Keeper Michael Theoklitos an Australian signed from Melbourne Victory, centre half Michael Nelson from Hartlepool, Matt Gill a midfielder from Exeter who was a youth player at City and is from Fakenham, and another midfielder Owain Tudor-Jones from Swansea.
Preston have accepted an offer for winger Simon Whaley and we’ve offered terms to him so it is all down to the player as he undergoes a medical Monday.
Of the trialists Michael Bridges is hoping to impress his fitness on the management with a move to City appealing to the striker. Paul McVeigh is back at City having been released two years ago, initially to use the facilities here but he seems to be trying to get himself back on track and is impressing. Goran Maric is a 25 year old Serbian, formally of Barcelona B and Celta Vigo, who will tour Scotland and see how he matches up to the manager.

Nice one Marcus I hope so. He hasn’t been able to play yet due to work permit issues that have been resolved now I believe. We need a good keeper so here’s hoping. Certainly sounds good and has competition from Ben Alnwick whilst he’s on loan and also the youngsters Declan Rudd and Jed Steer.
