Three points, at last!

By: Edward | November 27th, 2007

On Saturday, after a run of eleven games without victory, Norwich notched up a vital win that I hope will spur them on this evening.

New loan signing Matthew Pattion set up both the goals. The first for Luke Chadwick, the second for Jamie Cureton to pounce. Norwich defeated Coventry City 2-0.

It was a stong, confident performance and I am so pleased that tonight we place ourselves in a situation where victory against Blackpool will take us to within a point of safety. Blackpool are fourth from bottom, so we must play with all the guts and determination there is on offer.

We should have Darren Huckerby back on the bench now that his three match ban is over, and Dion Dublin has recovered from his dead leg sustained on Saturday. Hoorah!

It is also pleasing to see a coach, at least appearing, to know what he is doing! Maybe this is age and experience, but in some of the loan signings Roeder has made he has shown intelligence and clarity of judgement. Martin Taylor has been extremely useful, Pattison had a great debut and Mo Camara had a good second half. Roeder knew what was needed to give us a chance of getting out of this mess. Now the fans rightly sing “Glenn Roeder’s yellow and green army!” Indeed, I hear it ringing in my ears…”one swallow does not make a Summer”…we shall see if optimism is unfounded tonight! I just want to see a great performance again, as our away form for years has been appalling. More points will do nicely.

I for one am deeply disappointed with Norwich’s performance. I mean a team with a pretty distinguishable history dosen’t deserve this fate.

Do you think Roeder’s the man for the job?

    Hi there!

I know what you mean, it is heartbreaking to see a team like Norwich in this kind of dangerous position.

Do I think Roeder is the man for the job? Hmmm. After the last two wins, I can see the impact he has had with his tactics, and particularly the loan signings and how he has utilised them. That has all been very positive. I probably do think he is the man for the job, particularly short term. He seems to be a coach with experience and contacts and knows what he is doing, unlike the famously amateurish Peter Grant. However, as my Dad grew up supporting West Ham I know the terrible damage he inflicted on them in his second full season in charge. Relegation, financial meltdown, and West Ham losing the best crop of youngsters they had had for years. So…Roeder does seem to lose his grip of teams after a season or so, but, he does turn them around to begin with. Is this part of a larger gamble by the board? I don’t know, they did give him a two and a half year contract… I only hope that at a club like Norwich, with a tight coaching framework and close support at Championship level the turnaround won’t be full circle, like at West Ham and Newcastle.
