Roeder Chosen in Norwich Crisis
By: Edward | October 31st, 2007The Norwich City board made an interesting and unusual appointment of manager yesterday in the form of the ex-West Ham and Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder. Of all the names touted to lead our team of the undead on the eve of Halloween, Roeder had not been one of them. The fans were aspirational, they had heard names such as Steve Bruce, Paul Jewell, Phil Parkinson and Martin Allen. Yes, there was some flights of fantasy involved but Roeder never seemed to permeate the Norwich press machine in the form of rumour.
The board probably see this as a strong decision having a coach that has managed at the top level and not wavering to fans’ demands. It may of course come to haunt them. Norwich are in crisis. Roeder has turned around clubs in crisis, that is true, the only problem with Roeder in charge is that after about two seasons the turn-around seems to be full circle. West Ham? Newcastle?
Whatever happens now the team needs confidence, and the departure of Jim Duffy is unfortunately a necessary move. The structure of Peter Grant’s managerial team was a disaster no one can deny. Let us hope better days are ahead and Roeder will use his contacts as he has promised to shift in a few players that will present us as a more steely side and one up for a battle.
The great escape begins now, we hope. Norwich has little choice but to pray that within a new, smaller, more careful coaching framework at Carrow Road Roeder will work well. In the short term as well as the long term. For now, however, lets worry about the short term and start by beating Ipswich on Sunday.

Welcome, Edward. I hear that the Canaries, or more specifically Roeder, is looking to take Derek Riordan from Celtic to Norwich in January. Any new info on that front?
